About
Jennifer Greeno, LCSW
I am a licensed clinical social worker in California specializing in trauma and EMDR therapy. I work one-to-one with adults throughout California by telehealth.
Much of my work is with people who find that something from the past continues to affect them in the present — sometimes despite understanding what happened, talking about it, or trying very hard to move beyond it.

In my own words
How I came to this work
I didn’t set out to become a therapist. I found my way into the work and discovered, somewhat unexpectedly, that it was a good fit for me. Over time, I became increasingly interested in how much our experiences shape the way we respond to ourselves, other people, and the world around us — often long after the experience itself is over.
When I first learned about EMDR, I was drawn to the possibility of helping people address difficult experiences without requiring them to repeatedly recount every detail of what happened. The model wasn’t immediately easy for me to understand, and early in my training I was still learning to trust a process that asked something different of me as a therapist.
With training, ongoing consultation, and practice, my understanding of the work — and of my role in it — began to change. I learned that I don’t have to find the right interpretation or manufacture healing for someone else. My role is to prepare carefully, stay connected and attuned to what is happening, offer guidance when it is useful, and trust in each person’s capacity to make connections and move toward resolution.
Those are the moments that continue to make this work meaningful to me: when someone realizes that a memory is still there, but it no longer carries the same emotional intensity; when something they have understood intellectually for years begins to feel true in a different way; or when they arrive at an understanding I could never have given them because it came from their own processing.
Curiosity is an important part of how I approach this work. I continue to learn from clinicians and researchers in the field, but I also learn from the people I work with — what they notice, what has helped them, and what hasn’t. I try to remain willing to question my own assumptions and consider a perspective different from the one I started with. I don’t assume that I understand someone’s experience simply because I recognize something about it. When I don’t understand, I would rather become curious and ask.
I try to offer a relationship that is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, while recognizing that meaningful trauma work also requires preparation, honesty, and trust.
I don’t expect to have all of the answers. I bring my training, attention, curiosity, and clinical judgment to the work — and I trust that you bring something equally important: your own experience, perspective, and capacity for change.

Practical details
What to expect
The initial assessment is 90 minutes and the fee is $300. Ongoing sessions are 60 minutes and $200. All sessions are held online.
Payment is processed through Thrizer. I do not bill insurance directly, although eligible clients may choose to use out-of-network benefits through Thrizer when available.
We begin with a conversation about what brings you to therapy, what you would like to be different, and what you may need from me along the way. Preparation comes before processing. We take the time to understand what you are experiencing, develop a plan for treatment, and make sure you have the support and resources you need before approaching difficult material.
There is no expectation that you arrive ready to talk about everything. Treatment moves at a pace that takes into account your readiness, needs, and goals.
